Academic Advising
Academic advising at Christ's Church Academy is faculty-based, is coordinated and supported by the Director of Academic Advising, and supplemented by academic departments and recommendations of faculty. Academic advising also involves collaboration with and referral to the Office of Guidance.
Goals and Objectives
- Guide students through the transition and integration into high school life
- Promote courses and opportunities that enhance academic engagement, growth, and development of life-long learners
- Teach students to recognize and utilize their unique personal potentials
Expectations of Academic Advisors
-Be respectful and inclusive in communications and interactions
- Inform students about expectations
-Assist students in exploring and defining their interests, skills, and goals
- Remain current with Florida state academic policies, procedures, deadlines, and requirements
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information while following FERPA guidelines at all times
- Inform students of and provide appropriate referrals to campus resources that enhance their academic and/or personal experience at CCA
- Discuss plans-of-action
- Help students to make decisions and take ownership of their choices
Expectations of Students
- Develop a strong working relationship with your advisor, and make an appointment when requested and necessary
- Be respectful and inclusive in your communications and interactions with your advisor
- Prepare for and be active in your advising meetings and ask questions when you have them
- Reflect on your personal interests, skills, and goals and share them with your advisor
- Use the technological resources (Common APP, etc) available to help you make informed decisions toward and plan your college admissions
- Follow through on plans-of-action identified during advising meetings
- Take responsibility for completing your academic plan
Post Secondary Advising
The Christ's Church Academy Advising Office empowers students to take the lead in deciding where they’ll go after graduation, providing exceptional support, up-to-date resources, and expertise in the world of college admissions. We guide students as they consider a range of options for life after CCA, teach them how to put together a college application that reflects their beliefs and talents, and help them choose the path that suits them best.
Guidance and School Counseling
Christ’s Church Academy provides guidance and counseling services to students through classroom lessons, small group experiences, and individual meetings with a certified school counselor. Students receive assistance in managing a wide range of responsibilities, including academics, social topics, and personal concerns. Student needs are handled with care and respect, recognizing the partnership between school and family.
Confidentiality
In order to create an atmosphere of trust, the school counselor will communicate to students that they may speak openly. It is important for parents to understand that everything will be done to ensure student confidence. Information that a student has trustingly disclosed during time with the school counselor will not be shared with parents or other staff members, with the following exceptions:
*the student is likely to harm themselves or others
*child or elder abuse is suspected
*the information is court-ordered
*the student gives specific permission to share
